The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy
by Douglas Adams
After the boot on the human face in April, we’re going funny in May. In fact, for our money, the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy is the funniest book ever written.
Big call, we know. We admire the craft of John Kennedy Toole, the wit of PG Wodehouse and the out-and-out hilarity of the Beano Annual. But when it comes to making us laugh out loud, it’s Slartibartfast and Deep Thought every time.
And in election month, we thought that one of Douglas Adams’ finest one-liners is worth remembering: “Anyone who is capable of getting themselves made President should on no account be allowed to do the job.”
